5 Things to Consider When Building a Home

Tabetha Gibbons - Friday, April 15, 2016
Reminiscent Homes is a Design/Build Firm, which means our clients don’t select from a book of floor plans. We design a home specifically for them and the best way to do that is by creating a relationship with our clients.
There are endless possibilities, which ironically can be very exciting and very stressful. We want to help eliminate that stress by getting to know what is most important to them.
They start by coming to us with a few jotted down ideas which typically includes home size, architectural style and interior design styles. We then meet to get down to the nitty-gritty to find what is most important.
Here are 5 simple things we like our clients to consider when building a new home.
Kitchen Size
Building custom homes in Bluffton, Hilton Head and Palmetto Bluff is truly a blessing. We’re surrounded by golf courses, sweet tea and southern hospitality! Which is part of the reason why people love to vacation here. Most of our clients love to entertain their guests, so it’s important to consider kitchen size.
We’ll go over things like cabinet space, pantry size and under cabinet, or in drawer electrical outlets. Of course you can’t forget the new trend of Large, Deep, Single Bowl, kitchen sinks!
Mudrooms are also important to consider if the homeowner has pets or children. Also, although it doesn’t snow down here in the Low Country, there are unexpected thunder storms and you can’t forget the dreadful pollen season.
You’ll have a separate space where you can take your boots off, shake the sand off your flip-flops and store your umbrellas.
Living Space or Family Room
We want to know if our clients spend a lot of time relaxing in their main living area. Perhaps they like a designated reading space, or maybe ample room for multiple guests to sit and relax. Is natural lighting important to you? Do you want an open floor plan? Do you prefer a separate media room, or do you typically watch TV in the same living space?
These are important things to consider when designing one of the largest rooms in their Home.
You’d be surprised what simple things we want you to consider when we talk about bathrooms, or powder rooms. Yes, design is important. The type of sink you’ll want to live with, the tile texture and color, lighting, color scheme, etc. But the fundamentals are important too. Like, do you want heating flooring? How high should the vanity be? Is natural light better, or LED? Do you want a dual shower room and steam room? Extra outlets? Do you want the outlets to be hidden in drawers? Do you want a tub, or just a shower? How about both?
We’ll help you create a checklist of what’s important, what seems the most functional, and even toss in a few unique ideas so you’re home is truly custom designed!
Like we’ve mentioned before, creating a relationship with our clients is very important. The bedroom is another place we spend a lot of our time. It should be your sanctuary with some well deserved senses of relaxation. Therefor, we’ll talk about room size, closet space, color scheme, lighting, and several other options.
If you are planning on growing your family, do you want an extra bedroom to double as a play room? Would you like the extra bedrooms to have their own bathroom?
These spaces are going to become personal retreats. We want you to look forward to coming home to your bedroom.
