Building Trend: Pantry & Prep Kitchens

Tabetha Gibbons - Saturday, October 15, 2016

Hidden behind what looks like just another cabinet door, you will now find another small room that is your Pantry or Prep kitchen. The size of these rooms are determined by how many appliances you would like to have and how much space you will need.

We have designed them large enough to include a full size refrigerator, a full size dishwasher, and a sink as large as the one you have in your main kitchen. You can also have a full size microwave, and an under counter wine cooler. With all the counter space you'll ever need for all that prep mess is behind a closed cabinet door. Your guests will never need to see that mess Well, unless of course you want to show off your Pantry!

The best part of the Pantry/Prep kitchen is that all the disarray can be closed behind the cabinet door. With all the home that are an open floor plan, you'd need to have all your prep work done way ahead of time. That way you can spend quality time with your guests.

The stress of this all goes away with these fabulous kitchen details!

Tips on Staying Organized When Building Your Home

Tabetha Gibbons - Friday, July 08, 2016

It’s unfathomable the amount of things you have to keep tabs on when building a home, or remodeling. Don’t fret! Reminiscent Homes will be with you during the entire process!

Here are a few things we recommend that can help you along the way.

Create a List of Must Haves

You should keep a list of must haves and don’t be afraid to ask Reminiscent Homes for some common overlooked ideas. Add anything you can think of! As your home design stage progresses, you can begin honing in on things that really mean something to you and toss out the things that aren’t necessary.

Keep a Good Line of Communication With Your Builder

It is important to us that our clients are comfortable and know that we are here from start to finish. By keeping a good line of communication, we can ensure your home is custom built the way you intended. Express to us your concerns, your dislikes; let us know immediately if you’ve changed your mind, and talk about the things that you’re looking forward to. We want your honesty and we promise to give you ours!

Know That We Are Here to Help Things Stay Organized

Take a trip out to your local office supply store and get yourself organized. Keeping everything in one big binder can help with your stress tremendously. Plans, invoices, contacts, bank information, paint colors, ideas, basically anything associated with building your home should be added to this binder. That way once the home is officially turned over, you have everything you need neatly organized in a home binder. If you loose something, don’t worry. Just give us a call. Visit our Get Organized Pinterest board for tips, ideas and free printables!

Follow Us on Houzz or Pinterest!

We encourage our clients to send us photos from our Houzz or Pinterest. The best time for this is during the home design so that we can make sure we accommodate space. If there is something you are interested in, don’t hesitate to send it over to our team! This is your home and we want to custom design your home the way you envision it.

These are just a few ideas! If you have others that have helped you along the way, share them with us! You are not alone during your home building process. Reminiscent Homes is here the whole way.

5 Things to Consider When Building a Home

Tabetha Gibbons - Friday, April 15, 2016
Reminiscent Homes is a Design/Build Firm, which means our clients don’t select from a book of floor plans. We design a home specifically for them and the best way to do that is by creating a relationship with our clients.
There are endless possibilities, which ironically can be very exciting and very stressful. We want to help eliminate that stress by getting to know what is most important to them.
They start by coming to us with a few jotted down ideas which typically includes home size, architectural style and interior design styles. We then meet to get down to the nitty-gritty to find what is most important.
Here are 5 simple things we like our clients to consider when building a new home.
Kitchen Size
Building custom homes in Bluffton, Hilton Head and Palmetto Bluff is truly a blessing. We’re surrounded by golf courses, sweet tea and southern hospitality! Which is part of the reason why people love to vacation here. Most of our clients love to entertain their guests, so it’s important to consider kitchen size.
We’ll go over things like cabinet space, pantry size and under cabinet, or in drawer electrical outlets. Of course you can’t forget the new trend of Large, Deep, Single Bowl, kitchen sinks!
Mudrooms are also important to consider if the homeowner has pets or children. Also, although it doesn’t snow down here in the Low Country, there are unexpected thunder storms and you can’t forget the dreadful pollen season.
You’ll have a separate space where you can take your boots off, shake the sand off your flip-flops and store your umbrellas.
Living Space or Family Room
We want to know if our clients spend a lot of time relaxing in their main living area. Perhaps they like a designated reading space, or maybe ample room for multiple guests to sit and relax. Is natural lighting important to you? Do you want an open floor plan? Do you prefer a separate media room, or do you typically watch TV in the same living space?
These are important things to consider when designing one of the largest rooms in their Home.
You’d be surprised what simple things we want you to consider when we talk about bathrooms, or powder rooms. Yes, design is important. The type of sink you’ll want to live with, the tile texture and color, lighting, color scheme, etc. But the fundamentals are important too. Like, do you want heating flooring? How high should the vanity be? Is natural light better, or LED? Do you want a dual shower room and steam room? Extra outlets? Do you want the outlets to be hidden in drawers? Do you want a tub, or just a shower? How about both?
We’ll help you create a checklist of what’s important, what seems the most functional, and even toss in a few unique ideas so you’re home is truly custom designed!
Like we’ve mentioned before, creating a relationship with our clients is very important. The bedroom is another place we spend a lot of our time. It should be your sanctuary with some well deserved senses of relaxation. Therefor, we’ll talk about room size, closet space, color scheme, lighting, and several other options.
If you are planning on growing your family, do you want an extra bedroom to double as a play room? Would you like the extra bedrooms to have their own bathroom?
These spaces are going to become personal retreats. We want you to look forward to coming home to your bedroom.
Reminiscent Homes is a true custom home builder, not just a copy cat floor plan designer. We take all the information given to us by our clients and we design a home for them that is specific to their wants, needs, fashion and lifestyles. We never take a plan we have used in the past and retro-fit it, we start from scratch for each client. Of course, if a client likes a Design Feature we’ve used in the past, we are happy to change it up for their specific needs and incorporate it into their Custom Design.  Remember, Our design team at Reminiscent Homes can actually put together a 3D virtual home so you can see exactly what your home will look like before we even start building!
